Austin JavaScript Meetup Group gathered at Capital Factory where Chander Dhall spoke about writing JavaScript. A straightforward exploration of basic code blocks and some of the nuances that comprise the JavaScript language. In particular the presenter emphasised about the flexible nature of js showing several ways to write functions and arrive at the same types of output through the DOM.. We discussed putting variables in a global function to enable it to fire, changing the scope of variables with the base js functionality & returning functions to a function.

Best practices

Using a var only to prevent someone from deleting the value and then only inside a functional scope

Setting Global variables and binding them to calls so they execute and understanding what is in the scope of the DOM upon execution

Finally He introduced me to assigning prototypes so on runtime the scope of the result can be determined, which was pretty much over my head.

Well formed code

Importance of explicitly using semicolons

Absolutely correct way to comment js…/* not // and he showed why

Charming presenter and absolutely top notch domain expert
